Capoeira Basics

Cord Levels
 
Light Green
Light green is given to all new students who have not participated in a batizado. A student has 0 to 6 months of training.

Dark Green
Dark Green is the cord a student receives at his or her first batizado. A student has at least 6 months of training.

Yellow and Light Green
Yellow and Light Green. A student must remain at this rank for at least 6 months.

Yellow and Dark Green
Yellow and Dark Green. A student must remain at this rank for at least 6 months.

Light Green and Light Blue
Light Green and Light Blue. A student must remain at this rank for at least 6 months.

Dark Green and Dark Blue
Dark Green and Dark Blue (Graduado). A student must remain at this rank for at least 6 months.

Yellow (Graduado)
Yellow (Graduado). A student must remain at this rank for at least 12 months.

Yellow and Light Blue (Graduado)
Yellow and Light Blue (Graduado). A student must remain at this rank for at least 12 months.

Yellow and Dark Blue (Graduado)
Yellow and Dark Blue (Graduado). A student must remain at this rank for at least 12 months

Light Blue (Estagiario)
Light Blue (Estagiario). A student must remain at this rank for at least 12 months

Dark Blue (Monitor)
Dark Blue (Monitor). A student must remain at this rank for at least 24 months

Green, Yellow and Blue (Professor)
Green, Yellow and Blue (Professor) this rank requires a minimum of 9 years playing Capoeira.

Green, Yellow, Blue, and White (Mestrando)
Green, Yellow, Blue, and White (Mestrando) this rank requires a minimum of 10 years playing Capoeira and a minimum age of 25.

Verde/Branco (Mestre)
The first level mestre must remain at the green/white rank for at least 10 years. He or she must also be older than 26 years of age.

Amarelo/Branco (Mestre)
The second level mestre must remain at the yellow/white rank for at least 10 years. He or she must also be older than 36 years of age.

Azul/Branco (Mestre)
The third level mestre must remain at the blue/white rank for at least 10 years. He or she must also be older than 46 years of age.

Branco (Grao Mestre)
The grand mestre must be at least 56 years of age.
